There are still a lot of older consoles out there and considering the cost of a new console this is not a surprise. Gaming consoles can be repaired when they go wrong, in this blog we discuss a repair iLogix Computer Solutions carried out on an XBox One S. In this case we saved the customer hundreds of pounds when comparing the repair cost to a new console.
XBox HDMI Port Repairs and damaged HDMI Ports in general are a very common issue.
iLogix Computer Solutions carry a lot of game console parts in stock so when we get these we can usually offer a fast turnaround.
The console needs to be dismantled and the system board be removed. The broken HDMI port then needs to be removed from the system board. This process requires mixing low melt solder with the lead free factory solder to reduce its melting temperature. Hot air is then applied around the port until the solder melts and the broken HDMI port can be safely lifted.
We clean the exposed pads using solder wick and a new HDMI port is manually soldered in place using a micro soldering iron.
The console has been reassembled and tested.
It's a fix!
Nice and easy? don't bet on it. We often see DIY repair attempts go wrong, see our blog here that shows torn pads on a Nintendo Switch, this can happen on any board level repair to any component if not enough care is taken.
