As an iPhone ages the battery performance will start to reduce due to the batteries chemical aging process. This will eventually mean that your iPhone will hold less of a charge and result in less time between charging. We can optimise battery performance by making some adjustments:
Install the latest version of iOS. Settings / General / Software Update
Reduce the brightness of the display. This is done by swiping down the screen to open the Control Centre, use the slider to adjust the illumination level. You can also use Auto Brightness to adjust based on lighting conditions. Settings / Accessibility / Display & Text / Auto-Brightness.
Enable Low Power Mode. Settings / Battery / Toggle Low Power Mode on. Additionally Low Power Mode activates automatically when your device has 20% battery capacity. Low Power Mode optimises battery performance by adjusting brightness and prevents apps downloading background content. Low Power Mode disabled AirDrop, iCloud Sync and Continuity.
Turning off Location Services will preserve battery power.
Close Apps that you are not using, Depending on your model swipe halfway up from the bottom or double press the home button, then close your App by swiping it up.
You can see how your device battery is performing compared to when the phone was new. Through these steps:
Select Settings

Select Battery

Select Battery Health & Charging

You will be able to see your battery health as a percentage of the manufacturers capacity.

This will help with your iPhone Battery Health however you may need a new battery. Battery replacements are a simple service item. Although it requires work by a specialist it is usually not that expensive and does not take long to do.
